Director ID - How To Apply

Your step by step instructions on the

2 steps of applying for Director ID.

This must be completed individually by you

To Set up MyGovID – download app on your phone and register by following the prompts.

Once you have downloaded the app through either App Store (Apple iPhone) or Play Store (Samsung) – open the app then follow the prompts.

It will ask you to type in your email address. It will then send you a 6 digit code to your nominated email, which you will have to retrieve and type in the boxes in the app, it will then ask you to create a password. Please ensure you save the user name and password as you will need this to apply for the DIN.

Summary of process to register

  • Download MyGovID app onto phone

  • Enter email address

  • Retrieve 6 digit code sent from app in email

  • Input the code

  • Create a password

Registration should be complete, you can now follow the prompts to create a strong ID.


You will need to have on hand 1 document from the Primary list & 1 document from the Secondary list to create a strong ID.

Primary documents

  • Australian full birth certificate (extracts and commemorative certificates are not acceptable)

  • Australian passport (including passports that have expired in the past three years)

  • Australian citizenship certificate or extract from a Register of Citizenship by Descent

  • Foreign passport

Secondary documents

  • Medicare card

  • Australian driver's licence or Australian learner's permit (this must show your photo and

    signature, and the address on the card must match the details on your application and the ATO)

Whichever document you nominate to prove your ID will have to be scanned with your phone.

  • The app will also ask you to take a selfie (photo of yourself) as further verification.

Once you have a strong ID you need to go onto the website below; (easier if done on a laptop/desktop computer rather than phone)

STEP 2

Scroll to the bottom of the page on the website and click on Apply Now with MyGovID

You will have to log in with your email address & password. You will be asked 2 questions from the nominated identification documents (have these on hand to answer the 2 questions)ie;

  • Licence (Licence number, date of issue, date of expiry)

  • Medicare card (Reference number, date of expiry)

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) (TFN, ATO Reference number or date of issue of NOA – all at top right hand side.) Please ask for a copy if you do not have one.

Once they are satisfied with your ID they will ask you to fill out/confirm your personal details, name address date of birth, mobile etc ‐ remember all the information has to be identical to what the ATO have.

Once completed the ABRS will issue a 15‐digit number on the spot – PLEASE SAVE A PDF.
